At least 30 passengers, including three children, have been injured in a Russian drone strike on a train station in northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy region, the country’s public broadcaster Suspilne reported on Saturday.

The so-called double tap strike on a railway station in the city of Shostka, saw a passenger train struck while at one of the station’s platforms, followed by a second drone striking a passenger train bound for Kyiv while civilians were still evacuating the area following the first strike, Ukrainian Railways said.

Sumy Governor Oleh Hryhorov confirmed the attack in a Telegram post on Saturday, adding that emergency medical care was being provided on the scene, and that the number of casualties remained unknown.

Denouncing the strikes as “brutal” in a social media post accompanied by footage of a burning passenger train burning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians and urged Ukraine’s Western allies to act to ensure that Moscow was held accountable for its “terror”.

“Every day, Russia takes people’s lives. And only force can make them stop. We have heard strong statements from Europe and America; it is high time to turn them into reality,” Zelensky said.
