The new boss of MSNBC -- Rebecca Kutler -- not only canceled The Reidout and Alex Wagner Tonight, she also ended the weekend shows of Ayman Mohyeldin, Katie Phang, and Jonathan Capehart. Is anything really going to change -- other than Joy Reid's visibility? Is Symone Sanders much "safer" for MSNBC on the weeknights? Or is it just rearranging the host furniture?

We're already hearing that Mohyeldin and Capehart are moving to weekend mornings. Talk of bringing in Eugene Daniels and Melissa Murray as hosts might please gay and black audiences, but it doesn't sound like it would be substantially different than what is being ended.

The New York Times adds that a front-runner for the Maddow slot is former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki, a favorite of the MSNBC brass. Psaki is, from their vantage point, wonderfully attuned to the DNC messaging apparatus.

MSNBC is projected to shed approximately 10.5% of its subscribers between the end of 2023 and the end of 2025, according to estimates from Kagan, a market-research firm. Kutler wants to create a separate "news" division, with a Washington Bureau Chief and a collection of political reporters for when it separates from NBC News. It's still beating CNN, but it's a tough business trying to boost Democrat morale right now.

We also discuss the recent pattern of network hate of Elon Musk and DOGE. A new Geoff Dickens study for NewsBusters showed the Big Three networks couldn't even muster two minutes of air time between them to note the budget savings Team DOGE is already claiming. Who needs "good news" about DOGE?

The network weekend hosts were sparring this weekend with pro-DOGE guests. They can't just interview conservatives and Republicans, they feel like it's mandatory to debate them. Left-wing audiences expect dramatic pushback, so the interviewers sound aggressively partisan.
