Google admitted the Biden administration pressured them to suppress “misinformation” from their opponents, and they shut down YouTube accounts from Dan Bongino, Steve Bannon, and Sebastian Gorka. But the networks ignore all that as they make Jimmy Kimmel into their free-speech hero, despite his non-stop lying on national TV. MRC President David Bozell and NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck joined the conversation.
If news comes from Republicans, it's somehow not news. Congressman Jim Jordan announced on Tuesday that “Google commits to offer ALL creators previously kicked off YouTube due to political speech violations to return to the platform.” Google admitted the Biden administration pressured them to censor, even speech that did not violate their own standards. MRC vice president for Free Speech America Dan Schneider summarized: “Google has finally entered a 12-step program to address its TDS.”
Deep in his Status media newsletter, former CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy ranted this was “Google’s GOP gift” to “replatform toxic actors” like Dan Bongino, Steve Bannon, and Sebastian Gorka -- although two of them are now in the Trump administration.
This is the left’s actual belief on the First Amendment. Allowing conservative speech is platforming “toxic actors.” They don’t really believe in free speech. They think Jimmy Kimmel is a hero, not “toxic.” It all depends on whether you’re siding with them. Kimmel used his platform upon his return to argue America is hard to tell from a "gulag." He's on television, not in a prison camp.
Our Jorge Bonilla calculated that the evening newscasts of ABC, CBS, and NBC devoted 15 minutes and one second to adoring Kimmel's return to late night on Tuesday and Wednesday night. But they aired NOTHING on the Google news. (You can add another 9 minutes, and 46 seconds to ZERO on the PBS News Hour those nights.) It's just like they tried to ignore all the Twitter Files revelations.
Plus: An active shooter hit three detainees at an ICE facility in Dallas, killing one before turning the gun on himself. Bill D’Agostino made a video in what felt like an hour of just MSNBC hosts and guests comparing ICE to the Gestapo. On MSNBC last weekend, "Public" radio host Maria Hinojosa compared ICE to the Nazi murderers of Anne Frank. The south side of Chicago has little "Anita Francos" that are afraid to come out of their homes....as if alligator Alcatraz was Auschwitz?
Finally, we discussed the possibility of a government shutdown, as House Speaker Mike Johnson suggested the Democrats might shut down because "they want to restore taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens." The media elites always blame the Republicans for a shutdown no matter the actual details. Chuck Schumer and the Democrats have a reason to force a shutdown because their base wants a fight.
