When is a non-lethal car accident a national news item -- and a car crash that killed three is not? When an illegal alien killed three. ABC, CBS, and NBC wouldn't touch the story of an illegal alien (with a commercial driver's license from California) who drove a truck into three people during a U-turn in Florida. We discuss this and other wokeness topics with Bill D'Agostino.
Harjinder Singh has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. The crash was last Tuesday, August 12. Singh was arrested in Stockton, California, on Saturday. NewsNation reported it on Sunday.
Other car crashes did make national news. Geoff Dickens reports the August 19 editions of ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News and August 20 Today covered the story of two restaurant influencers having their livestream interrupted by a car crashing into their table. On August 20, ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS Mornings and NBC’s Today show all covered an explosion at a new veterinary hospital in North Carolina caused by a drunk driver striking a gas line.
One might wonder if the Florida crash wasn't caught on video. Nope. The networks could use video showing the multi-vehicle crash and fiery aftermath. Then we address other stories.
DC Crime crackdown. Bill found CNN and MSNBC used altered crime statistics 73 times in a 24-hour period. Alex Christy found former CNN screamer Jim Acosta engulfed by melodrama on his Monday Substack podcast. Acosta claimed that the people of Washington, D.C. “are living under an occupation,” and hailed them for showing “bravery and courage” in resisting.
Smithsonian museum review. One hot topic right now is President Trump’s crusade to impose the notion of “American exceptionalism” in taxpayer-funded museums before the nation’s 250th anniversary, and to root out divisive and partisan narratives. It’s a little like the fight over PBS and NPR. Conservative taxpayers are expected to foot the bill for liberal bias. How dare anyone review their content!
On “CBS Mornings,” co-host Tony Dokoupil landed more in the center as his fellow co-hosts supported the current wokeness at the museums. He said America is “not above critique, but we shouldn’t look at our history with contempt and I think there is some room for a correction back toward the middle.” Surely, he was considered to be on the white right-wing fringe by his CBS co-workers!
The Smithsonian reports 62 percent of its funding comes from the federal government. So it should be natural that public opinion – which is more patriotic than the media – should play a role in federal museum messages.
Abby Phillip. CNN host Abby Phillip toed the leftist line on Trump & Co. wanting to remove slavery from the museums. Discussing the DC crime crackdown on Tuesday, Phillip shouted down commentator Batya Ungar-Sargon when she attempted to cite facts and statistics about how the media dramatically stepped up talking about “white supremacy.”
On Kara Swisher's "Pivot" podcast on Tuesday, Phillip knocked CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings and past panelist Jillian Michaels as examples of people who disrespect her “guard rails” and are “playing...games” with the show.
