The liberal media cannot help but cry over the law being upheld as Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrest and deport illegal immigrants across the country. On Thursday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe had a meltdown over the immigration detention center, Alligator Alcatraz, being “inhumane” for illegal immigrants.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski lamented, “In an interview with NBC News South Florida, the former corrections officer, only identified as Lindsay, compares the areas where detainees are kept to a, quote, 'oversized kennel.'"
It's worth noting that the “oversized kennel” was the same style of fencing that was used under former President Biden’s administration to detain a large group in a certain location, but because it is a new immigration detention center under President Trump, it is worth complaining about.
However, Brzezinski continued, “She told reporters each tent at the facility has eight large cages that hold close to 300 people, saying the inmates have no sunlight or access to daily showers, and that on rainy days, water pours into the tents-describing a constant battle against mosquitoes. Lindsay went on to express sympathy for the detainees, claiming many of them are not criminals.”
Former Obama-era Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was invited on the show and weighed in. He falsely claimed:
It's obvious that this is somebody's idea to create a really horrible deterrent. But at the same time, crossings at the southern border are at historic record lows right now. So, what are we doing? And the focus needs to be on the criminals. This administration started out on that. But all they've done, frankly, is turbocharge the sanctuary cities movement such that you have undocumented arrested people who actually, here in Manhattan shot an off duty CBP officer. I want to know why there was no detainer on that person as soon as he was arrested and sent to Rikers or wherever he was sent.
Johnson suggested that Alligator Alcatraz is not needed because of the “historic record lows” of illegal immigrants crossing the border. Jeh, the crossing at the border is at a historic low because of the strict crackdowns of ICE arresting and deporting illegals, and immigration detention centers like Alligator Alcatraz being built.
The former secretary also phrased his answer by blaming the deportation policies on a CBP officer getting shot in Manhattan, a sanctuary city, and not the illegal immigrant, “And the focus needs to be on the criminals. This administration started out on that. But all they've done, frankly, is turbocharge the sanctuary cities movement such that you have undocumented arrested people who actually, here in Manhattan shot an off duty CBP officer. I want to know why there was no detainer on that person as soon as he was arrested and sent to Rikers or wherever he was sent.”
Maybe Jeh, those cities ignore ICE detainers, which is why they need stricter restrictions. It is worth going back to Lindsey’s words describing Alligator Alcatraz, since the liberal media sides with defending illegal immigrants:
...saying the inmates have no sunlight or access to daily showers, and that on rainy days, water pours into the tents-describing a constant battle against mosquitoes. Lindsey went on to express sympathy for the detainees, claiming many of them are not criminals.
Since when are mosquitoes the new excuse to protect illegal immigrants? Touch grass, MSNBC- Alligator Alcatraz is located in the Florida Everglades, what did you expect?
By having “sympathy for the detainees,” is pushing Americans away from the liberal media because they treat illegal immigrants like a special class that must be protected. Time to protect the American people, border, and the law.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yeah, Jeh, we've got one more item for you. We're also following the latest with the Trump administration's mass deportation efforts, including new questions around one detention center. A former employee at the ICE detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz is speaking out about the conditions there, calling them inhumane. In an interview with NBC News South Florida, the former corrections officer, only identified as Lindsey, compares the areas where detainees are kept to a, quote, “oversized kennel.”
She told reporters each tent at the facility has eight large cages that hold close to 300 people, saying the inmates have no sunlight or access to daily showers, and that on rainy days, water pours into the tents-describing a constant battle against mosquitoes. Lindsay went on to express sympathy for the detainees, claiming many of them are not criminals.
Jeh, your reaction to this reporting?
JEH JOHNSON: You know, I try to imagine if I were still secretary and somebody from ICE came to me and said, “we've got this thing called Alligator Alcatraz that we've set up for undocumented.” I'd ask, “okay, how many people does it hold?” “Well, it holds 300.” Okay. There are in excess of 10 million undocumented in this country. What are we doing? 300 people.
If the system is working properly, then any undocumented who commits a crime goes into pretrial detention. ICE puts a detainer on him. The moment he's released, he goes into immigration detention, and that's obviously not happening.
BRZEZINSKI: Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson thank you very much for coming on this morning. It’s good to see you.
