Liberal talk show host Jimmy Kimmel returns Tuesday after being suspended on September 17 for false and malicious comments regarding the assassination of conservative Charlie Kirk – but, three-fourths of adults weren’t watching “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” before he was pulled.
Results of an Economist/YouGov poll, conducted September 19-22, released Tuesday finds that 75% of U.S. adult citizens either never watch (58%) Kimmel’s show or do so less than once a month (17%).
ABC lifted Kimmel’s suspension, but the decision by Nexstar Media and Sinclair not to carry his program on its stations will diminish its audience when he returns.
Democrat adults are far more fond of Kimmel’s liberal, and often vicious, political propaganda than are Republicans.
While the percent who never watch Kimmel or tune in less than once a month is much higher for Republicans (81%/9%) and Independents (59%/18%), fully 59% of Democrat adults (33%/26%) don’t, as well.
What’s more, Kimmel’s program stacks up poorly against late-night talk shows, in general, the survey shows. Here, 26% of U.S. adults watch late-night shows at least once a week, but only 16% watch Kimmel that frequently.
Less than half (43%) of adults say they have a “favorable opinion” of Kimmel, including a minority (45%) of Independents and just 12% of Republicans. Among Democrats, however, 76% view Kimmel favorably.
