On Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream, liberal panel member Juan Williams compared ICE agents to Gestapo in response to recent deportations and L.A. riots. Williams made multiple false claims and overwhelmingly false narratives in just over one minute.
Anchor Shannon Bream noted that the LAPD didn’t have the situation in L.A. under control, which prompted a response from Williams where he suggested it was all a ploy from the Trump administration to be unlawful (Click “expand”):
BREAM: But what Newsom has been saying publicly is, this is unnecessary; we have this situation under control; we have local and state authorities. But DHS said this Saturday, said Yesterday –- they’re referring to Friday night. They said, “last night, over 1,000 rioters surrounded a federal law enforcement building and assaulted ICE law enforcement officers, slashed tires, defaced buildings, and taxpayer funded property. It took the LAPD two hours to respond.”
WILLIAMS: No but let’s – you know I just want to frame this a little differently for the viewers this morning, which is to say, the Trump administration has not met its mark in terms of what it promised in terms of deporting. So it’s now upping its tactics, and those tactics there’s things like arresting a judge in Milwaukee, remember that one? Who they said she was protecting the immigrant in the courtroom or something cause she let her —
BREAM: Which would be against the law.
JOSH KRAUSHAAR: Which is against the law.
WILLIAMS: It’s not against the law for her in her courtroom –
KRAUSHAAR: It is
WILLIAMS: - to act.
KRAUSHAAR: Yes it is.
Williams started the segment by claiming that the Milwaukee judge did nothing illegal, but video showed Judge Dugan distracted ICE agents as an illegal immigrant they were meant to arrest was led out of the courthouse through a non-public entrance. Dugan was indicted by a grand jury on the charges that she was in direct violation of 1907. Title 8, U.S.C. 1324(a) Offenses. Williams was even called out by fellow panel members because of how false he was.
This first mishap didn’t stop Williams from making his most egregious claim of the segment, equating ICE to Nazis:
But secondly, what you see now on the streets of L.A., I think you see that this argument over the ICE agents wearing masks, I don’t think the protestors should wear masks and I don’t think anybody with federal authority representing the American people should be in a mask. That reeks of a – you know, Gestapo-type authority.
Williams claimed that ICE agents wearing masks to protect their identities is similar to a “Gestapo-type authority.” Ironically, this type of comparison was exactly the reason these agents wear a mask in the first place.
The fear mongering claim that ICE agents who do their job to deport illegal immigrants were the same as Hitler’s secret police force, who rounded up Jews and threw them into concentration camps where they were gassed and burned to death, was a radical and out of touch idea that creates a dangerous narrative.
These agents were being doxxed by radical X accounts and even by members of the government, for example Nashville’s Mayor Freddie O’Connell whose office "accidently" leaked the names of ICE and DHS agents. These doxxing attacks created an unsafe environment for ICE agents and their families.
Williams then left us with this:
And then finally, I am just shocked that – you know, you look at the provocative tweet by the Defense Secretary saying he’s gonna send the U.S. Marines onto American soil? Look, the problem is that we have 12 million illegal immigrants in this country and we have to think about and deal with this effectively, and not think about throwing our own troops against people who are contributing members of our society.
Adding: “we have to think about and deal with this effectively and not think about throwing our own troops against people who are contributing members of our society.”
Did Williams believe that people who throw rocks at moving vehicles and police officers, or who set fire to cars, or who set off fireworks at officers, or who set fire traps on horse-mounted LAPD officers are “contributing members of society?”

SHANNON BREAM: So this back and forth with apparently Governor Newsom and President Trump had a 40-minute phone call last night – oh to be a fly on the wall for that call! I would like to know more about that if either one of them wants to share.
But what Newsom has been saying publicly is, this is unnecessary; we have this situation under control; we have local and state authorities. Juan, that doesn’t sound like you have it under control.

BREAM: I need to bring Josh in here, because this issue about masking. What they’re saying is they are being doxxed these ICE agents and their kids. So, it’s the children too.
