For a media talking head that had no issue selling Americans on the snake oil of Bidenomics, CNN host Fareed Zakaria clearly exhibited why he has no idea what the term “destruction” means.
The Fareed Zakaria GPS host tried browbeating the C-suites for not going to war with President Donald Trump in a D-Day Anniversary Washington Post screed headlined: “Why CEOs are silent in the face of Trump’s destruction.”
Zakaria whined, “Business leaders used to stand up to power. Where are they now?” Remember, this is the same pompous clown who celebrated the “resounding success” of Bidenomics while telling Democrats to just forget the working class voters who weren’t buying it.
Now, Zakaria is out here acting like a quasi-Paul Revere over Trump’s tariffs. "Business leaders must deal with America the way they used to deal with Third World dictatorships: Appease the supreme leader. And they are adjusting to this new model quietly without much dissent," He wrote. Yes, Zakaria actually compared Trump to a Third World dictator like anyone with two working brain cells would take that comparison seriously.
“Today, at a time of full employment and low inflation, the Trump administration has unleashed a tsunami of uncertainty. Tariffs are on, then they are paused, then back on, then they get doubled. And what do business leaders say? Nothing,” Zakaria cried further. The CNN host seemed to forget that many in the liberal media, including his own colleagues, were already predicting inflationary disaster as a result of Trump’s tariff plans before he even had a chance to sit down in the Oval Office, which to date has still not panned out.
In fact, there's been welcome economic news as of late. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index, which acts as the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation, slowed more than expected to 2.1 percent in April. That’s just shy of the Fed’s 2 percent target before it begins cutting interest rates. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also released its latest employment report the same day Zakaria’s whiny agitprop was published, finding that the U.S. added 139,000 jobs in May, completely eclipsing the experts' expectations of a 125,000 job increase. The good news was also bolstered by a sharper-than-expected increase in worker pay. Talk about timing. Trump’s tariffs also contributed to an historic halving of the U.S. trade deficit in April as U.S. imports plunged.
Did Zakaria mention any of this? Of course not. He instead went on a tirade against business leaders who weren’t kicking and screaming about Trump’s tariffs as he expected them to:
In the past, business leaders have routinely railed against higher taxes on businesses. Yet today, encountering a raft of new taxes in the form of tariffs, they have mostly stayed quiet. Many CEOs will not even dare mention that their prices will have to rise because of the new taxes on their imported goods. The new 50 percent tax on steel tariffs, for example, will benefit the steel industry. But studies have shown that for every job saved in that industry, there are 75 jobs endangered in industries that use imported steel in their products (like cars and construction). Have you heard those CEOs complain? I have not.
Just another load of diarrhea from Zakaria.
