OTTAWA – Canada’s access to information watchdog says she is facing a $700,000 budget shortfall that will hamstring her ability to hold the government to account and is calling on the Liberals to fix this “unacceptable predicament.”

“This reduction in my budget will spell longer delays for complainants who are seeking information from government institutions,” Information Commissioner Caroline Maynard bluntly told MPs on the Ethics committee Thursday.
