The respective heads of three European countries—Ireland, Norway and Spain—announced on Wednesday that they will formally recognize the State of Palestine, effectively rewarding Hamas for its unprovoked slaughter of more than 1,100 people, mostly civilians, in southern Israel on October 7 of last year.

The head-scratching announcement comes less than two weeks removed from a chaotic Eurovision Song Contest that was overshadowed by protests over Israel’s participation in the annual event.
