Embattled B.C. United Leader Kevin Falcon somehow managed to make an almost unsalvageable situation even worse recently, when he green-lit B.C. Muslim Association (BCMA) president Asad Gondal as the party’s candidate for North Surrey — even though Gondal signed BCMA statements expressing anti-Israel and anti-LGBT views.
On the evening of June 11, three days after announcing Gondal’s candidacy, Falcon hastily terminated him. But that didn’t spare Falcon from a torrent of criticism, including barbs from close personal allies. The chorus of prominent centre-right voices openly speaking out against Falcon for running Gondal in the first place indicates that Falcon’s already tenuous hold over B.C. United may well have slipped past the point of no return.
