The Alberta social studies curriculum battle is on again. For the fourth time since 2018, successive drafts have sparked public controversy. The current curriculum, dating back almost two decades, is now deeply embedded and successive United Conservative Party (UCP) governments have, so far, been unable to fend off the curriculum gatekeepers and to engineer systemic reform. That’s a story that deserves a fuller public airing from someone bearing the scrapes and bruises.
