Canada is a world leader in the production of several natural resources, including oil and gas, gold, copper and potash. Few would have ever predicted we would become a major player in, of all things, the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

Yet, that’s exactly what has happened.

BloombergNEF’s annual global lithium-ion battery supply chain ranking, which was released in February, saw Canada displace China in the top position for 2023. Factors that go into the ranking include raw materials, battery manufacturing, downstream demand, infrastructure, innovation and environmental and social governance (ESG).
