Justin Trudeau handles truth like kids handle guns: carelessly and with no regard for the consequences. 

The prime minister is no stranger to truth, but he can never be friends with it. The nature of the job is so partisan that it requires him to spin truth, twist it, deflect it, sow division with it, hide it when its dangerous and reveal it when its advantageous. 

This attitude has infected his deputy, Chrystia Freeland, although she is less a practitioner of the art of fabrication and more a master of the simple characterization: the Liberals are saintly, holy and compassionate, while the Conservatives are a vat of demons who if let loose will turn Canada into a hellscape that even Lucifer wouldn’t recognize.
