As to why, it appears the United Nations had simply been reprinting the daily casualty figures issued by Hamas. Unsurprisingly, Hamas does not have a stellar reputation when it comes to casualty figures. For one, they count every fighter’s death as a civilian casualty — and will list them as “children” if they were under 18.
