Tyler Dawson has some of it right when he says “… for Edmonton, it’s all local and right now, it’s all about the game.” But he comes up short. For me and many fans and non fans it’s all about Canada. I have never experienced in my 81 years the disparate, desperate, flagging spirit of Canadians as is evident today. Many refer to the country as being broken institutionally, economically, psychologically, intellectually and emotionally. The cry of anguish over the scorched-earth policies of the federal government during the past eight years is reaching a heart-wrenching screech. We are looking for hope and, as shallow and simple as sports entertainment is, the only light on the horizon presently is the Oilers.
