OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has promised to eliminate the federal sales tax on Canadian-made vehicles, while NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is vowing to revive a Second World War victory bond program as the federal government prepares its response to new U.S. tariffs on auto imports.

Thursday morning, federal party leaders came out swinging with their parties’ proposals to counter the effects of President Donald Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs on vehicle and component imports that aren’t covered by the Canada-U.S.-Mexico free trade agreement (CUSMA).
