To hear the critics talk, the tax provisions in President Donald Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB) are a gift to the uber-wealthy who are, they insist, already undertaxed. Never mind that the law prevents a huge tax hike at the end of the year on most Americans; somehow, it’s bad that the rich will prosper at all. But, while it’s true that the OBBB is more than a bit of a mess and adds cost and complexity to an already excessively bureaucratic state, its tax provisions do some good. Importantly, successful Americans are already paying a disproportionate share of the bill for the bloated U.S. government.
