Even Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters might be surprised to see the U.S. president bring — possibly — peace to the Middle East. But the fact is that the bloody conflict that began when terrorists swarmed from Gaza into Israel on October 7, 2023, is on hold and there’s real potential for a long-term settlement that could reduce the threat to Israelis while bringing stability to Gaza. It’s early days yet, but even a glimmer of hope is more than the region usually sees. That said, there’s a long way to go from a ceasefire to ending the threat posed by Hamas and its international enablers.
