In an increasingly authoritarian world, the United States remains a relative haven for freedom. Unfortunately, members of the country’s political class, especially prominent Democrats, want to end that status. While much ink has rightly been spilled in recent years about the illiberalism of the Republican Party, their main opponents embrace a soft totalitarianism imposed through back-channel pressure and the clout of allies in more-restrictive countries.
