For the last couple days I’ve been writing about the Edmonton Oilers as a source of hope, identity and emotional unity here in the capital of Alberta. On further reflection, however, I’ve now come to realize that ice hockey is a ridiculous pastime of no more importance or virtue than model trains or birdwatching, and that we should all stop taking it so darned seriously. Cosh regrets the error. Regrets it, indeed, to the innermost depths of his soul.
