PARIS — Christa Deguchi’s medal collection, which was long on Grand Slam and World Championship hardware, now has some serious Olympic shine to it.

The 28-year-old judoka, who was born in Shiojiri, Japan but competes for Canada, where her father Tom Taylor was born, won a gold medal on Monday in a pitched battle with Korea’s Mimi Huh, who settled for silver.

The match went into Golden Score or extra time and Huh lost on a penalty.
