On Monday night, ITV's Unforgotten saw DCI Jess James (Sinead Keenan) and Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) delve into Gerry Cooper's past after the discovery of his remains.
They interviewed his widow Juliet (Victoria Hamilton) to gather more information about the deceased. However, during their conversation, it became apparent that something was off.
Juliet revealed her husband had fallen into debt after borrowing money from a dangerous crowd. As she tearfully recounted her husband's story, viewers were shown a quick flashback from Juliet's perspective.
She expressed disbelief at Gerry's cause of death to Jess and Sunny, detailing that she insisted to the police at the time that foul play was involved.
Despite claiming that she had requested the authorities reopen the case at the time, Jess later discovered there was no record of such a request.
Reflecting on Juliet's account, Jess began to suspect her innocence, suggesting she might have been involved in Gerry's death for life insurance money.
Noticing Juliet's luxurious home and her daughter's expensive schooling, Jess confided in Sunny that something didn't add up. It appears viewers also suspect Juliet may have played a part in Gerry's demise, reports the Express.
On Twitter, the speculation is rife with one user commenting: "She killed her husband for the insurance money .. new big house and private school for the daughter" Another chimed in, adding: "Big house, private school? Mmm."
A third person added to the intrigue, saying: "Ooo £400k! Worth more dead than alive?" One viewer expressed their suspicions, tweeting: "I've thought from the start she may have killed her husband but now I'm not so sure but she's deffo acting dodgy about something."
Meanwhile, another tweet suggested a financial motive, adding: "She said she bought the house by selling all the flats but the life insurance must have helped."
As the investigation into Gerry's murder unfolds, the team leaves no stone unturned in their quest for the truth.
The next episode promises even more twists and turns, as hinted by the synopsis.
It reads:"The team discover Asif, Mel, and Marty's connections to Gerry Cooper and bring Marty in.
"As Gerry Cooper's descent into nationalism and his violent streak are revealed, Leanne and Sunny's friendship evolves while Jess reaches out to her sister."
Unforgotten is available to watch on ITVX.
