Donald Trump confirmed he will come to the UK for a second state visit as Keir Starmer arrived at the White House today.

Sitting in the Oval Office with the US President, the PM presented him with a letter from the King officially inviting him to the UK.

"Am I supposed to read it right now?" Trump asked Starmer, before saying the King is a "great great gentleman"

Trump added he'd be coming to the UK in the "near future."

The two leaders will now share a lunch before holding crunch meetings to discuss the future of the conflict in Ukraine.

They'll enjoy a winter green salad to start, followed by grilled seabass and a chocolate caramel cake for dessert.

Trump would be the first US President ever to be granted a second state visit by the UK.

As he arrived on Thursday afternoon, Mr Trump greeted Sir Keir at the White House with a warm handshake.

The US President said "yes we can" when asked if a peace deal could be achieved in Ukraine, and the pair then headed inside followed by Foreign Secretary David Lammy and the UK's ambassador to the US Lord Mandelson.

Ahead of his talks at the White House on Thursday, Sir Keir said Mr Trump can be trusted and understands that Russian President Mr Putin started the war in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister will hope the promise to increase defence spending to a 2.5% share of the economy from April 2027 helps persuade Mr Trump that European nations are serious about the security of their continent.
