HSBC customers have reported being unable to access their accounts online as its app is currently down, as the worldwide bank apologised to users in a statement.
Several people have said they are unable to access their bank accounts, leaving some unable to travel or find lodgings for the evening. In a statement shared on X, the bank apologised for those affected and promised teams are investigating the ongoing issue.
It is currently unknown what has caused the issue this evening, which has affected users attempting to use their mobile banking apps on their phones. A similar issue hit the bank in January, which lasted around an hour.
HSBC said in a statement: "We’re working hard to fix an intermittent issue with Mobile and Online Banking services. Debit and credit cards, digital wallet and ATMs are all working.
"You can still authorise online card purchases via SMS. We’re really sorry that some services are currently unavailable in online and mobile banking. We understand this is frustrating, and our teams are investigating the issue."
One person said online: "I have not been able to access my account - being only told when I went into the branch - can't transfer between my own accounts and now apparently restricted.
"Have not eaten since yesterday as it’s my only account here - as of tonight I have no place to go."
Another unimpressed user added: "Happens too often , yet by closing branches you force people to use cashless banking then withdraw the service frequently."
