At least two people, including the suspect, have been killed following a mass shooting at a Mormon church, which has also gone up in flames.

The shooting took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Videos from the site show the church on fire and there are reports the roof is starting to collapse.

Police said there are "multiple victims", and expect to find more when the fire is extinguished. Sources say children are among those injured.

'We believe there will be other victims who were unable to get out'

Sheriff Renye said police believe more victims will be found.

He said: "It was a large fire and we believe that there were people in that area who were unable to get out of the church so we do believe we will find additional victims."

The sheriff said a service was taking place at the time and "there were 100s of people in the church".

On the victims of the attack, he stated: "A couple in critical condition, one is deceased, the rest are in stable condition." The suspect is also dead.

Trump claims shooting was an 'attack on Christians'

Donald Trump wrote on social media: "I have been briefed on the horrendous shooting that took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

"The FBI was immediately on scene, and will be leading the Federal Investigation, and providing full support to State and Local Officials. The suspect is dead, but there is still a lot to learn.

"This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America. The Trump Administration will keep the Public posted, as we always do. In the meantime, PRAY for the victims, and their families. THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!"

Investigation with the aid of FBI will now turn to suspect and see if motive

Sheriff Renye continued: "We are going to search warrants at the suspects residents, we are going to find out if there was a motive.

"We are going to go through cell phone records, things like that. We have the FBI, they are donating 100 agents to this area because as you can imagine there were a lot of witnesses at the church and that is a lot of witness information, statements to obtain."

Police expect to find more victims at scene with fire now extinguished

Sheriff Renye continued: "During this incident a fire did occur and we believe that was deliberately set by the suspect. We do believe that we will find additional victims once we have that scene secure. That fire was just extinguished."

Sheriff says one person has died among 10 victims with shooter 'neutralised'

Sheriff Renye told a press conference: "What we know so far is that a 40-year-old suspect from Burton, he is a male, drove his vehicle through the front doors of the church, he then exited his vehicle, firing several rounds at individuals within the church.

"10 gunshot victims have been transported to local hospitals at this time including one who has been deceased.

"Officers who have been trained, immediately responded to the area (...) where they met the suspect and engaged in gunfire with that particular individual, neutralising that suspect and that suspect is no longer with us."

'Shooter engaged with police before being neutralised'

Police "engaged with the shooter who has now been neutralised" said Sheriff Ranye.

Authorities believe that the suspect, aged 40, set the church on fire, and it is feared more victims may be found.

Police chief William Ranye said a 40-year-old suspect "rammed a vehicle" into the front of the church and then opened fire.

There are 10 gunshot victims including one person who has died. The suspect is also dead.

FBI director Kash Patel said "We are tracking reports of the horrific shooting and fire at an LDS church in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

"@FBI agents are on the scene to assist local authorities. Violence in a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act. Our prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible tragedy."

What we know so far as fire still raging at church after shooting

Multiple people have been shot at a Mormon church in Michigan and the shooter is down, police said.

The shooting occurred at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Detroit, local police said in a social media post. The church was on fire.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities have not released details on the victims’ conditions.

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said the area had been evacuated and local and federal authorities were there. “The entire church is on fire,” Swanson said. “This is a dynamic scene.”

He said authorities would release more details later. “There’s a lot of things that are happening that we are not able to communicate just because of the work that needs to be done,” Swanson said.

Michigan governor says 'violence unacceptable' and praised first responders

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a statement that her heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community. “Violence anywhere especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable,” she said. "I am grateful to the first responders who took action quickly."

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities have not released details on the victims’ conditions.

'Gunman down and church on fire' when police arrived

A police officer at the scene of the fire told reporters they arrived at the church to find the gunman was already "down" and the building on fire.

"We arrived to find the gunman down and the church was on fire," said the officer. "We are now taking care of casualties and anyone needing medical help."

US attorney general issues statement after 'horrific' shooting

US attorney general Pam Bondi wrote on X: "I am receiving briefings about what appears to be a horrific shooting and fire at an LDS church in Grand Blanc, Michigan. @FBI and @ATFHQ agents are en route to the scene now. Children 'among the injured' after shooting at church

Children have reportedly been injured in the shooting at a church north of Detroit in Michigan.

There are believed to be as many as eight people who have been shot and a CNN source claims that children have also been hurt during the incident at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

At least one person has also been seen as they were taken from the church on a stretcher.

'Entire church is on fire' says sheriff who has confirmed 'multiple victims'

Sheriff Swanson, from Genesee County, issued a video message where he said the whole church is on fire.

He said: "There is no active threat, the shooter is down, there are multiple victims, the entire church is on fire. We are working with the fire and doing everything that we do during active shooter training."

What we know about the church which is on fire

A massive fire is still burning through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc with thick grey clouds rising into the sky.

There is a vast emergency response to the incident north of Detroit where multiple people were shot and fire crews are currently attempting to put out the fire.

The church says on its website that there is a service between 10am until 1pm on a Sunday. It states: "Attending church each Sunday is a respite from fast-paced daily living. Attend church at 4285 McCandlish Road to reflect, worship God, strengthen your spiritual connections, and focus on Jesus.

"Worship with a community of people who are trying to be more Christlike and learn from each other. There are two meetings in a two hour time."

Police say 'shooter is down' but people are being told to avoid the area

Grand Blanc police said the shooter is down and there is no ongoing threat to the public, but they are urging people to avoid the area.

The shooting was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, about 50 miles north of Detroit.a.

For people involved, a meeting site has been set up in the pavilion to the north of the church. For those not at the site the meeting point is the Trillium Theatre at Holly and McCandlish.

Victim seen taken away on stretcher after shooting

A person has been seen on a stretcher being taken away to a nearby ambulance after the attack at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, north of Detroit.

'Up to eight people injured with conditions unknown' after church attack

As many as eight people have been injured with their conditions unknown after an attack on a church which is on fire, reportd Fox News.

Police sources told the outlet that six to eight people were hit. Video from the scene showed smoke billowing as emergency vehicles lined the street.

It is thought that the suspected shooter may have started the church on fire.

"Avoid McCandlish Rd between Holly Rd and Saginaw St in Grand Blanc Twp due to an ongoing police incident," said local emergency services.

Shooter opens fire on people at a church

Multiple casualties have been reported at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan.

At approximately 10:45am local time, 911 calls reported shots fired and flames inside the church.
