It began with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests in Los Angeles, CA. The activist left saw an excuse to mobilize its foot soldiers quickly to wreak havoc. Even before a single National Guard serviceman set foot on the streets, the newest LA riots were already underway. President Donald Trump wasted little time in placing the Golden State’s National Guard under federal command and ordering the deployment of troops to combat the civil unrest. Unable to resist resisting everything Trump does – even when popular opinion is clearly not on their side – elected Democrats and other influential figures on the left flew into rages of indignation. Among the most entertaining, ridiculous, and/or downright idiotic are the following five:

Pringle went on, “We know what this administration is doing. So we are saying to Donald Trump and all of his allies, we will not, we will not scapegoat immigrants, we will not — the people who have built this country — we will not stand by and allow you to do that.”

Which “immigrants” she was referring to is not clear. It is certainly true that America was built by immigrants, and it is also true that America was already built when the illegal aliens currently being detained by ICE arrived here.

Princeton University Professor Eddie Glaude lost it on MSNBC, saying (somewhat confusingly), “This reminds me historically of the … it’s not a clear analogy … but when the nation, when these political factions, divided the nation between slave holders and slave catchers.” He continued with the labored comparison, attempting to compare ICE with those “slave catchers.” The professor went on, in a roundabout way, to wonder if the LA riots would spark some kind of national uprising. “I’m sitting here trying to figure out, what will the country stomach? Are they going to allow [President Trump] to do this?” Glaude finished with a telling revelation of his utter contempt for regular Americans. “Donald Trump, as a political charlatan, of sorts, gives Americans license to be who they really are. They don’t have to pretend. And when you see what they really are, who they really are, these people who support him … it’s dark.”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) took to the streets as the LA riots continued and decided to set the record straight. “There is no violence, where anybody that was protesting hit anybody, shot anybody, threatened anybody. Nothing has happened. There may have been folks – one or two or a few people who will not conform.” Waters went on to tell people not to be goaded into violence “because that’s what Trump wants.”

So far, fortunately, no one has shot anybody, so she’s right on that count, but there has been plenty of hitting – mostly with lumps of concrete. One video that went viral on TikTok showed a leftist rioter repeatedly punching a police horse until he found out that was a bad idea. What kind of human being does that? Is this the tolerant left we hear so much about?

Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, decided to fall back on elected Democrats’ favorite anti-Trump narrative – well, one of them. A well-schooled reporter asked her if Trump had committed an impeachable offense by sending in the California National Guard to respond to the LA riots. A leading question, if ever there was one. “I definitely believe it is, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” Clarke answered.

Perhaps the most blatantly dishonest response to President Trump’s handling of the LA riots, however, came from Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

The LA riots have prompted flashbacks to Jan. 6, 2021. Leftists described that protest in the nation’s capital as the worst thing that ever happened. Still, Pelosi decided to draw a comparison that defied reality. “In a bipartisan way, on Jan. 6, with violence against the Constitution, against the Congress and against the United States Capitol, we begged the president of the United States to send in the National Guard. He would not do it,” she claimed. “And yet in the contra-Constitutional way, he has sent the National Guard into California. Something is very wrong with this picture.”

The events of that day have become the most intensely scrutinized political scandal in Washington, DC, since Watergate. It has been thoroughly established that Trump himself recommended days before the deployment of the National Guard to protect the US Capitol. That recommendation was rejected.

Democratic reactions to the LA riots have been bewildering, to say the least. But generalization is not fair. Several party members and operatives pointed out the folly of siding with the rioters. Obviously, those individuals, including Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who described the LA riots as “anarchy” – as did one Los Angeles Democratic council member – realize this is never going to be a winning issue for them. Americans are still mostly behind Trump’s handling of the illegal immigrant issue, and more chaos and violence are certain to boost that support rather than erode it.
