US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were reportedly attacked in Chicago on Saturday amid escalating violence targeting President Donald Trump’s deportation efforts. Authorities said suspects boxed in and rammed federal agents with 10 vehicles.
One of the suspects was carrying a semi-automatic firearm, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said, forcing the surrounded agents “to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed U.S. citizen.”
After federal agents were surrounded, rammed, and threatened by at least one armed suspect, McLaughlin revealed that Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s Chicago Police Department abandoned the scene, refusing to help federal authorities secure the area.
The attack reportedly occurred during a standard patrol in Broadview, a suburb of Chicago that is roughly 15 miles from the ICE processing center.
“The armed woman was named in a [Customs and Border Protection] intelligence bulletin last week for doxing agents and posting online ‘Hey to all my gang let’s f-ck those mother f-ckers up, don’t let them take anyone,’” McLaughlin wrote on X.
Pritzker subsequently blamed the Trump administration for “unprecedented escalations of aggression against Illinois citizens and residents.”
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the Bureau is investigating the incident in Chicago, warning future anti-ICE agitators that “trying to intimidate law enforcement will not slow us down.”
“The mission will not stop,” Bongino added.
Hours after chaos erupted in Chicago, President Donald Trump approved the activation of 300 National Guard troops in the Windy City.
“Amidst ongoing violent riots and lawlessness, that local leaders like [Illinois Gov. JB] Pritzker have refused to step in to quell, President Trump has authorized 300 national guardsmen to protect federal officers and assets,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement.
Pritzker accused the Trump administration of creating a “manufactured performance — not a serious effort the protect public safety.”
“This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will,” Pritzker said in a post on X. “For Donald Trump, this has never been about safety. This is about control.”
Last month, the Department of Homeland Security launched Operation Midway Blitz, a mission that aims to remove “the worst of the worst” illegal immigrants from Chicago. Since the operation began on September 8, authorities have arrested over 1,000 criminal aliens in Illinois, including “pedophiles, child abusers, kidnappers, gang members and armed robbers,” McLaughlin said.
Operation Midway Blitz was created in honor of Katie Abraham, who was killed by a drunk driving criminal illegal alien.
According to a DHS statement, the ICE operation targets the illegal immigrants who moved to Chicago and Illinois “because they knew Governor Pritzker and his sanctuary policies would protect them and allow them to roam free on American streets.”
“For years, Governor Pritzker and his fellow sanctuary politicians released Tren de Aragua gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug traffickers on Chicago’s streets—putting American lives at risk and making Chicago a magnet for criminals. President Trump and Secretary Noem have a clear message: no city is a safe haven for criminal illegal aliens. If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will hunt you down, arrest you, deport you, and you will never return,” McLaughlin said.
