The House Oversight Committee on Dec. 8 released a resolution to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress “for his refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued by the committee.” Biden was subpoenaed to sit for a transcribed interview with the Oversight and Judiciary Committees but insisted that the proceedings be televised. It is standard practice for key witnesses in any congressional investigation to first attend closed-door interviews. Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) pledged to allow public testimony at a later date. Still, Joe Biden’s son ignored the subpoena and instead appeared on Dec. 13, 2023, outside the Capitol building in Washington, DC, to give a statement to the media.

The resolution faces a markup on Dec. 10 before going to the floor of the House for a full vote. If passed, the House could then refer the younger Biden to the Department of Justice for prosecution.
