Despite a fresh rant by Democratic strategist James Carville that the Trump administration will collapse in the next month, a new poll by Harvard CAPS/Harris released Feb. 24 is nothing short of devastating for the Democrats. Not only that, but the survey shows widespread support for Trump’s DOGE efforts, which have been the subject of so much partisan opposition. But does DOGE really cut along party lines? Let’s take a look at the poll and find out.
Carville made his prediction in a recent conversation with Mediaite. When asked to explain his statement, Carville told Dan Abrams: “It’s collapsing right now. We’re in the midst of a collapse. This is the lowest approval, not even close, that any president has ever had at a comparable time.”
What Carville is drinking is anyone’s guess, but a new poll shows quite the opposite. The survey sampled more than 2,000 registered voters with a 95% level of confidence. In a section titled Approval and Mood of Country, 52% approve of President Donald Trump’s first month in office. This included 50% of Hispanic, 49% of urban, 50% of suburban, and 58% of rural voters.
When it comes down to the issues that Americans care about, Trump is outperforming former President Joe Biden on every concern:
Any way you cut it — it’s a clean sweep for Trump.
In a section explicitly looking at the Trump administration, the current chief executive enjoys a 58% overall approval rating over his predecessor, who came in at only 42%. But it’s the section on DOGE that illustrates how bullish the American people are on the effort to cut federal expenditures.
A top line in the poll screams: “7 in 10 voters think government expenditures are filled with waste and agree with cutting $1T in expenses.” This includes 58% of Democrats who feel the government is “filled with waste, fraud and inefficiency.” When asked, “Do you think there should be a U.S. government agency focused on efficiency initiatives, or not?” a whopping 72% replied in the affirmative. This included 60% of Democrats, 89% of Republicans, and 67% of independents/others.
If polls could talk, this one would be shouting approval for DOGE and its cost-cutting measures. As Democrats around the country continue to drag DOGE efforts into various courtrooms, one wonders if they are doing the bidding of their constituency or just firing away for the sake of opposition.
