The United States Supreme Court issued rulings in four cases Thursday, June 20: Gonzalez v. Trevino, Moore v. US, Chiaverini v. City of Napoleon, and Diaz v. United States.

Liberty Nation News has closely followed Moore v. US and Diaz v. US., In Moore, the Court has ruled that the “mandatory repatriation tax” found in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is constitutional. It requires American owners of foreign corporate shares to pay a one-time tax on their share of their earnings. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the Court’s opinion, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Jackson. Jackson filed a separate concurring opinion. Justice Amy Barrett filed a concurring opinion joined by Justice Samuel Alito. Justice Clarence Thomas filed a dissent joined by Justice Neil Gorsuch.

This decision is a win for the tax man and a loss for the taxpayer.

In Diaz v. United States, the little guy took another hit in the criminal context. The Supreme Court has ruled it is okay for the government to put up witnesses in criminal cases that “most people” in similar circumstances have criminal intent, even if there is no evidence the actual defendant had a guilty mind. In Diaz, Justice Thomas wrote the opinion for the Court, joined by Chief Justice Roberts, Justices Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, and Ketanji Jackson. Justice Jackson filed a separate concurring opinion. Meanwhile, Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote a dissent, joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Liberty Nation News believes everyone should have the option to see original documents for themselves, without the spin. As such, we the opinions here for you to READ IN FULL. You can read the Moore v. United States decision below or click here for a PDF.
