Former US president Donald Trump escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday, July 13, at a rally on his campaign trail for the next presidential election. He was wounded on his ear.
The shooter and a rally attendee were killed, and two bystanders were seriously wounded, according to police. The FBI confirmed Saturday night that the shooting was an "assassination attempt," and identified the gunman as "Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania."
The rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was the last before the Republican convention, which kicks off on Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and at the end of which Trump was due to be officially inaugurated as the Republican Party's presidential candidate. His campaign team confirmed on Saturday evening that the ex-president still intends to attend after undergoing a medical examination at hospital as a precautionary measure.
