After a particularly sunless 2024 for France, the greyest year since 1993 according to a report by Météo-France, clouds have continued to hide the blue sky in early 2025.
Across France, 59 out of the 60 major cities equipped with an observation station have recorded below-normal sunshine levels over the past 12 months (calculated based on the period from 1991 to 2020). Ajaccio, in Corsica, was the only one to enjoy a slight surplus of sunlight (+ 2.1%). On average, these 60 towns lost 8.5% of their sunshine levels over the past year – around 159 hours. The center-west of the country was the most affected by this lack of sunshine, with a 17.4% drop reported in Chartres, -16.2% in Le Mans and Blois and -15.2% in Tours.
