For the second time, France is hosting the Rugby World Cup, from September 8 to October 23. Twenty teams will face off in the pool stages. The top two teams from each of the four pools will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Le Monde has compiled individual and collective statistics for the 660 players taking part for 20 nations. Below, each team's strengths and weaknesses are represented, in the form of a heptagon. The wider and more harmonious the surface, the more formidable the team's profile.

At the bottom, you can select two teams of your choice to compare their characteristics.

Pool A

France and New Zealand will likely have an easy time in this pool Once again, Italy is expected to get knocked out in the pool phase.

Pool B

Some have called this the pool of death, particularly in Scotland, which will face two tough challenges, when playing Ireland and South Africa.

Pool C

The level in this pool may be less homogenous than it appears: Wales has not been at its best level, while Fiji has shown it can rival with the great nations.

Pool D

In this pool, there are two overwhelming favorites: Argentina and England. At its home World Cup in 2019, Japan showed it was capable of reaching the quarter-finals, though.
