Mbappé's stats: How PSG star made Ligue 1 history with seven titles and 191 goals
In GraphsThe 25-year-old forward, who will play his last match for Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de France final on Saturday, broke many records during his eight years playing in the French league.
Kylian Mbappé is set to start in the Coupe de France final against Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday, May 25, in what will be his last match for Paris Saint-Germain. The forward publicly announced on May 10 he would be leaving, even though it was known since February. In all likelihood, he will join Real Madrid.
"I play to make history, and I've always said that I want to make history in France, in my country's capital, in my city," he had said in March 2023, when the world of football was closely watching to know whether he would extend with PSG. In just over eight years of his professional career, he has been crowned French champion seven times (once with AS Monaco, then six times with PSG) and broken numerous French football records: top scorer in Ligue 1 six years running, top scorer for PSG, top scorer for a French club in the Champions League, and more.
Seen by some as a major loss for French football, his departure for a foreign club could be an opportunity for him to join another club in pursuit of the major trophy he has never won, the Champions League, and get closer to a possible Ballon d'Or.
Top scorer in PSG history
At just 24, Mbappé entered Paris Saint-Germain legend on March 4, 2023, surpassing Edinson Cavani's record of 200 goals in the Paris shirt (all competitions combined). Since then, Mbappé has added more than 50 goals to his tally.
Worth noting: Zlatan Ibrahimovic may have scored fewer goals in the blue-and-red shirt, but he scored more per match played, with an average of 0.87 goals per match, compared with 0.83 for the Frenchman.
Top scorer in the French league six years running
While Mbappé rose to international stardom at PSG, it was at Monaco that he made his Ligue 1 debut. His first league goal came on February 20, 2016. At 17 years and two months old, he scored a left-footed goal in injury time against Troyes. Since then, he has scored 190 goals in 202 league games.
By the 2016-2017 season, the Monaco striker had climbed into the top 5 of the league's top scorers with 15 goals. But the following season, at Paris Saint-Germain, he dropped to 13th, with 13 goals in 28 games. He would go on to become the league's top scorer for six consecutive years.
Top scorer for a French club in the Champions League
Seven years after his first Champions League goal for Monaco against Manchester City on February 21, 2017, Mbappé is now the top scorer in the history of a French club in the C1. By scoring on November 2, 2022n in the match between PSG and Juventus Turin, he became the youngest player to score 40 Champions League goals, at 23 years, 10 months and 13 days, surpassing Lionel Messi (24 years, 4 months and 8 days in November 2011).
Sixth-highest scorer in Ligue 1 history
For six consecutive year, Mbappé was Ligue 1's top scorer. That is another record, beating Jean-Pierre Papin's five straight years as top scorer between 1987 and 1992, playing Olympique de Marseille.
At the age of 25, Mbappé is now the sixth-highest scorer in the French championship, behind several 1970s stars such as Delio Onnis (who played for Reims, Monaco, Tours and Toulon), Bernard Lacombe (Lyon, Saint-Etienne, and Bordeaux) and Carlos Bianchi (Reims, Paris, Strasbourg).
Mbappé is also the only player in the history of the French league to have been the top scorer and have delivered the most assists in one season (2021-2022). He has also scored the fastest goal in Ligue 1 history (8 seconds against Lille on August 21, 2022), equalling Michel Rio (SM Caen, 1992).
