By massively bombing Gaza, Netanyahu destroys ceasefire with Hamas

After two months of truce, almost to the day, the war between Israel and Hamas is raging again. Israeli fighter jets bombed the territory in several places early in the morning of Tuesday, March 18. The dark skies lit up orange with flames and explosions. In Gaza City, the towers that were still standing shook. Clinics and hospitals, from the north to the south of the strip, took in the dead and wounded – men, women and children. The people of Gaza had been trying to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan while expecting hostilities to resume for several days. The uncertainty is all the greater as no post-war plan has taken shape, be it Palestinian, Arab, American or Israeli.

The Israeli army killed more than 330 Palestinians in the morning, announced the local Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, which makes no distinction between civilians and fighters. Israel still prohibits foreign press access to Gaza.

This was not just a series of strikes. The truce has been well and truly broken. The Israeli army's Arabic-speaking spokesman, Avichay Adraee, issued a statement urging Gazans to evacuate all areas bordering the enclave with Israel: "The Israeli army has launched a powerful offensive against terrorist organizations. These specific areas are considered dangerous combat zones." These displacements risk completing the destruction of a Gaza population already tried by 15 months of conflict, while the two-month break has not mitigated the effects. Some 48,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, 2023, and the Hamas attack, which claimed the lives of 1,200 people.
