No one knows where the Trump storm will end: Will it veer toward an authoritarian, fascist system? Or will it eventually subside, drained of energy? If, as many believe, American democracy ultimately prevails, these years will have been marked by another revolution worthy of the steam engine: artificial intelligence (AI). It is AI that enables Trumpism to endure, boosting an economy whose growth, despite the chaos in Washington, will reach 1.8% in 2025, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), compared to just 0.6% in France.

It is hard to resist recalling the words of Jean-Noël Barrot from February 2023, when he was then France's junior minister for digital affairs, a few months after OpenAI's conversational robot was unveiled: "At this stage, ChatGPT is just a rough parrot that sometimes awkwardly reproduces the astronomical amounts of information it has compiled from the internet."

Two and a half years later, these "parrots" have progressed so much that they now compete with humans. "In the future, 40% of the work in the Fortune 1,000 [companies] is probably going to be done by AI, and it's going to be humans and AI actually working together," said Paul Harris, CTO of Slack and the co-founder of Salesforce, the world's leading business services provider, on Thursday, October 9, on the eve of its annual gathering in San Francisco, California.
