A teenager arrested Monday is suspected of pulling the trigger in seven drive-by shootings on both sides of the Columbia River in the span of four months, Vancouver police say.
Vancouver officers arrested the 17-year-old boy at a home on Northeast Tanglewood Drive in the city’s Marrion neighborhood, police said in a statement. A Clark County Juvenile Court clerk identified the teen as Xaviar A. Vaughan.
Police said they also recovered a white van allegedly used by the teen in the shootings. It had been parked across town on West 31st Street in the Fruit Valley area.
Vancouver police spokesperson Kim Kapp said the teen is linked to four shootings in Vancouver, two in Portland and one in unincorporated Clark County between December and March. Kapp said multiple houses and vehicles were struck during the shootings, but no one was injured. She said she didn’t know the exact location of the drive-bys.
Police said they recovered a handgun, 9mm bullet casings and a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle linked to several of the shootings, as well as items stolen during a car break-in. Another teen was detained during the investigation but not arrested, Kapp said.
The 17-year-old is being held in the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of drive-by shooting and unlawful possession of a gun, police said.
The van was seen driving away from an April 4 shooting near Washington Elementary School in Vancouver, police said in a statement, and also spotted during the recent car break-in.
