In the middle of his speech in Alabama on Thursday night, someone in the audience yelled “Run for president!” at recently fired former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
“I’m a sincere lover of the country and I want it to get better,” Carlson said. “How do you, all of us, in our small, incremental ways, make it better?”
“Run for president!” a man shouted.
The crowd applauded.
“Run for president?” Carlson said. “I think if you run for president, they will assassinate your character.”
Carlson spoke to a sold-out crowd of 1,189 on Thursday night for the annual fundraiser for Rainbow Omega at the Oxford Performing Arts Center.
Earlier in the day, he visited the Rainbow Omega campus, a residential facility in Eastaboga that houses up to 88 adults with developmental disabilities. It has a garden center, blueberry fields and a medical facility for developmentally disabled.
Carlson spoke for more than an hour Thursday night to help raise a large part of Rainbow Omega’s more than $8 million annual budget.
