Detectives are asking for the public's assistance locating a 14-year-old suspect who they said was accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old boy.
Officials said the investigation started just before 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, when they took a call about a shooting near 1600 West Ivy Circle.
A 17-year-old boy was reportedly found at the scene with a critical gunshot wound. The boy was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Officers searched the immediate and surrounding neighborhoods looking for the suspect, 14-year-old Kaydyn Christensen, but said they did not find him.
Detectives reported that they believe the incident is an isolated one between Christensen and the victim, whose identity was not initially released.
Christensen should be considered armed and dangerous, according to a press release.
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 23-30287.
Officials said this is the third homicide in Salt Lake City for 2023.
