In a disturbing video, a driver plows his car into an anti-illegal immigration rally in Dublin, Ireland, causing chaos and injuring several protesters. The suspect, 36-year-old Stephen Bedford, is a left-wing activist and even live-streamed his own crime.
The video footage captures the moment of the collision and the resulting panic and screams of onlookers. The victim has been hospitalized, and the driver has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
Witnesses describe the scene as a horror movie, with the driver continuing to drive over people. The attacker had been seen earlier in the area, running a message on a speaker system, and is known to have frequently countered protests against Ireland’s open borders immigration policy.
Bedford appeared in court charged with dangerous driving. Judge Bryan Smyth granted the dangerous left-wing activist bail on condition that he does not physically attend any anti-immigration protests, not drive a car, sign on three times a week at the Bridewell Garda Station, and be contactable by gardaí on his phone.
He was granted free legal aid and remanded to appear again in court on 30 March.
This disturbing incident raises questions about the nature of political activism and the use of violence as a means of protest.
Hermann Kelly, the leader of the Irish Freedom Party, which opposes the Irish government’s current asylum policy, called the incident “an act of political terrorism egged on by the Far-Left No Borders mob.”
The party released a statement that called the attack “predictable” and criticized high-ranking government officials for “inciting hatred against ordinary working-class people. They are a disgrace.”
