“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday said in just eight days since the election Donald Trump has already managed to be “way worse” than he expected.
Colbert pointed out that Trump earlier in the day nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to be his attorney general.
“During the campaign, I thought if Trump won, he would do the worst things I could imagine,” Colbert said. “Turns out, I don’t have much of an imagination.”
Trump also nominated former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as his pick for director of national intelligence.
Colbert then turned his ire to an unexpected figure: Not Trump or his allies, but Attorney General Merrick Garland, for failing to prosecute Trump sooner.

“Fun fact, this is true, today is his birthday,” Colbert said of Garland, then offered a mock celebratory greeting: “Are you 1? Are you 2? Are you sorry you didn’t speed up those Trump trials now, you schmuck?”
