Even the New York Post is less than impressed with how President Donald Trump’s administration is handling the fallout of the accidental addition of The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg to a group chat in which top Trump officials talked about a war strike in Yemen.
As the officials involved — including Fox News personality-turned-Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — try to spin their way out of the scandal, the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid’s editorial board warned Tuesday of potential consequences among voters in an op-ed with the headline: “Team Trump will pay a price for whistling past the Signal group-chat fiasco.”
“Yes, we get that stepping up to own failures is hard,” the usually-Trump boosting board acknowledged. “But it just got that much harder for Americans to trust the administration on national-security issues going forward.”
“At the very least, we pray the prez is privately knocking hard on every head involved in this mess — and warning that heads will roll if there’s anything like a next time,” it concluded. “The American people need to know Trump is still fighting for them, not lying to them.”
