“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Thursday jokingly called upon a shadowy cabal to step in and save the nation after President Donald Trump’s massive new tariffs caused the stock market to crater and threatened to tank the economy.

“Anyone feeling liberated?” he asked his audience after Trump’s “liberation day” tariffs triggered the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s biggest plunge since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

“Worst day for our economy since COVID,” Colbert said. “Just a little reminder: This time, he’s the disease.”

He said the collapse is proof that there is no shadowy “deep state” operating within the government after all.

“Because if there was, they would’ve stopped this shit,” Colbert said. “But if they do exist, I just want to say to the cabal of financial and governmental elites who pull all the strings behind the scenes: Maybe put a pause on your 5G chip JFK Jr adrenochrome chemtrail orgy and jump in here cuz we’re fucking dying.”
