President Donald Trump pushed his transphobic agenda at a Women’s History Month event on Wednesday.
To a crowd at the White House, Trump played himself up as a champion of women, repeatedly handing out compliments to women and praising his administration.
“We had an administration that tried to abolish the very concept of womanhood and replace it with radical gender ideology,” Trump said, speaking on former President Joe Biden’s time in office.
“Under the Trump administration, we’re ending the Marxist war on women. You had a war on women, and we’re protecting women’s rights, defending women’s dignity, and standing up for the American moms and daughters so many are represented here,” Trump continued.
He boasted about signing an executive order on the first day in office incorrectly asserting that there are only two sexes, and deliberately dismissing the existence of trans, non-binary, intersex two-spirit people and other gender identities.
“No matter how many surgeries you have or chemicals you inject, if you’re born with male DNA in every cell of your body, you can never become a woman. You’re not going to be a woman,” he said.
He also lauded himself for signing an executive order banning trans women and girls from women’s sports.
“The whole thing is ridiculous, and frankly, it’s demeaning to women, and you are superior to men in my opinion,” he said, adding that he also banned gender-affirming care for youth.
“Can you believe I’m even saying this? The sexual mutilation of minor youth. Who would think — let’s go back 10 or 15 years. Have you ever heard a statement like I just said? What the hell is he even talking about, right?”
“In the recent election, we did fantastically well with women. I kept hearing, ‘Women don’t like him.’ I said, ‘I think they do,’” he said.
Trump also discussed his goal to expand in vitro fertilization and plans to build a women’s history museum on the national mall.

Despite his claims in his 40-minute speech, during which he also repeatedly attacked the media and immigrants, Trump has not actually been the strong advocate for women that he painted himself out to be.
He has a number of men in his administration who, like himself, have been accused of sexually assaulting women.
Further, Trump has previously taken credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court Decision that protected abortion rights.
