Trump Threatens Sweeping Crackdown On ‘Illegal’ Protests At Schools
Trump threatened to defund colleges and schools that allow “illegal” protests, and warned “agitators” will be jailed or deported, in a sweeping crackdown on free speech.
“All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.
“Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested," he added.
It comes after the Trump administration said Monday it is mulling the withdrawal of Columbia University's federal funding over allegations it failed to protect Jewish students following last year's college protests.
Trump earlier this year adopted a hardline approach to pro-Palestine protests on campuses.
A January executive order accused “pro-Hamas aliens and left-wing radicals” of leading “a campaign of intimidation, vandalism, and violence on the campuses and streets of America,” and threatened revoking visas for “Hamas sympathizers.”
