Now that President Donald Trump is hinting stronger that Ukraine must capitulate to end the war started by Russia, “Daily Show” co-host Jordan Klepper lambasted him for his campaign promise to end the conflict within 24 hours of taking office, or even beforehand. (Watch the video below.)
Klepper replayed clips of Trump’s empty boasts, which look even weaker after Trump suggested this week that Russia deserves some of the land it fought for in its brutal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and that Ukraine bore some of the blame for the war.
Klepper scorched the poor optics of Trump’s earlier unkept promises on the conflict that seemed to defy time. In a coarse impression of Trump, the host mused:
“I’m gonna do a ‘Back to the Future’ and end this war before it even starts. Go back in time, kiss my mom, maybe have sex with her. What am I talking about? What was I talking about?”
The bit, which draws from a “Back to the Future” moment where time-traveling Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) goes on an awkward prom date with his mother, got laughs from the audience. But we’re pretty sure the president won’t find the funny in this one.
