WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is ordering all federal agencies to submit plans for “large-scale” reductions in employees, no later than March 13.
“The federal government is costly, inefficient, and deeply in debt,” reads a Wednesday directive from Russell Vought, director of the Office of Management and Budget.
The memo orders the heads of all executive departments and agencies to impose a “significant reduction” in the number of full-time employees by eliminating positions that “are not required.”
The directive comes after President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s team at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency have already forced out thousands of federal employees and imposed a federal hiring freeze.
