Pressed on his shifting position on abortion, former Pres. Trump falsely claims some states allow for the killing of an infant after birth.

ABC anchor and moderator Linsey Davis promptly clocked Donald Trump’s lies about abortion on the spot during the presidential debate on Tuesday.

Asked about abortion rights and his support for a six-week abortion ban, Trump spewed an outlandish claim about Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz.

Trump started out by allegedly quoting a former governor of West Virginia before pivoting to attacking Walz.

“They have abortion in the ninth month. They even have, you can look at the governor of West Virginia — the previous governor, not the current governor… he said, ‘The baby will be born, and we will decide what to do with the baby.’ In other words, ‘We will execute the baby,’” Trump said.

He added that Harris’ running mate “says abortion in the ninth month is absolutely fine. He also says execution after birth, execution ― no longer abortion because the baby is born ― is OK. That’s not OK with me.”

Neither Walz, the governor of Minnesota, nor any other elected official has called for the execution of babies, an act that would be classified as homicide.

Davis didn’t hesitate to jump in and correct Trump.

“There is no state in this country where it’s legal to kill a baby after it’s born,” she responded.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in June 2022, at least 22 states have banned or severely restricted abortions, The New York Times reported. Other states have enacted bans or restrictions but abortion remains legal until they take effect.
