NextImg:Trump Critics Get Brutal Case Of Deja Vu Over White House ‘Victory’ Post
LOADINGERROR LOADING

A social media post from the Trump White House on Monday sparked comparisons to one of the most infamous premature declarations in presidential history.

The White House shared an image on X, formerly Twitter, featuring a lectern flanked by images of the Gulf of Mexico ― rebranded by Trump as the “Gulf of America” ― beneath the word “Victory.”

Critics were quick to draw parallels to May 2003, when then-President George W. Bush stood aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln under a “Mission Accomplished” banner, declaring “major combat operations in Iraq have ended.” The conflict, however, was far from over, with years of insurgency and violence to follow.

Others questioned what exactly the White House was claiming victory over and suggested action on lowering grocery prices would prove a more fruitful use of the administration’s efforts.

This administration measures victory the same way third world despots do: Meaningless frivolities and symbolic gestures displayed loudly, with no actual substance, competence, or plans for the future. Seriously, what is this? Is the Executive Branch just a cheap sideshow now? https://t.co/b9C4ypiuxK

Anyone notice how the podium looks EXACTLY like an arrow pointing down? Like for a plummeting economy? Yep.

Imagine randomly changing the name of international waters that we only partially own just because and calling it a “victory”

Yes, because this was SO important compared to other issues https://t.co/ljhooPVS74
